Helium-3 is a stable isotope of the chemical element helium. The atomic nucleus of the nuclide consists of the element-specific 2 protons and a neutron, which results in the mass number 3. He-3 is - besides hydrogen-1 - the only stable isotope of an element with more protons than neutrons.

3He occurs naturally on Earth, but only in very small amounts (0.0002%); the other stable isotope is Helium-4 (with a fraction of 99.9998%).

The gyromagnetic ratio of the doubly positively charged (electron-free) 3He2+ atom (helion) is a fundamental natural constant that has the following values:

Shielded Helion纬麓h = 2.037894569(24) · 108 s-1 T -1Shielded Helion in MHz/T纬麓h = 32.43409942(38) MHz T - 1

The relative standard uncertainty is 1.2 · 10-8.

Isotones and IsobarsThe following table shows the atomic nuclei that are isotonic (same neutron number N = 1) and isobaric (same nucleon number A = 3) with Helium-3. Naturally occurring isotopes are marked in green; light green = naturally occurring radionuclides.
